Re: Ben Johnson
That was my primary school in Stepney/Mile End.

Apart fm that, he done really well. Looks composed on the ball.

For his first proper game he did very well indeed.

Re: Ben Johnson
Composed, but a few things needs to work on which will come with experience.

Ball watched too much, came narrow allowing the out pass to Mahrez in the first half.

Decent debut. He'll continue to develop but the future does look very good with him and Federicks at the full back positions.

Very decent PL debut;

Re: Ben Johnson
I am not going to judge him on his first game especially against Man City but he seemed to be ball watching most of the time, leaving players unmarked. As others have said good job it was Mahrez on the wing he was dire. He should be given a few more games and then decide if we need another left back. Fredericks was excellent and am happy to have him as No1 right back.

It seemed to me Johnson was instructed to keep it narrow. That does two things: it makes it harder for City to go straight through the middle, and it also makes it harder for Mahrez to cut inside, as he loves to, so he was forced out to use his weaker right foot.

Re: Ben Johnson
Considering it was his debut, playing on his wrong side, against arguably one of the best sides in World football - he did bloody well.

My biggest concern was that he kept talking to himself. If he's showing signs of madness now, what will he be like in a few years?

Posting on here, no doubt.

Re: Ben Johnson
Lily, I did feel for him due to Anderson doing very little to help him out and often he was caught with two players to mark or go to the ball, which meant he was bypassed a few times.

No doubt there's potential there, these little things come with experience.

I can't take you seriously when you talk football, SON.

Re: Ben Johnson
Why?

Re watch the first half , he constantly kept tucking in allowing too much space for Mahrez.

Re: Ben Johnson
Him staying narrow was 100% down to instruction.

With regards to staying narrow, we did exactly the same thing against Arsenal.

Re: Ben Johnson
You adapt to the game conditions, which he didn't do. That comes with experience.

I'm not saying he didn't have a good game, just pointing out some basics.

Eerie Descent 11:25 Thu Feb 28
Re: Ben Johnson
Pellegrini has spoken about it in the past, with Man City their biggest threat and best players are central, and they really hurt you from that position, playing in triangles and threading balls through. The theory is you'd rather give them space out wide and sticking in crosses, which our defence would have a better chance defending.

Grumpster 11:33 Thu Feb 28
Re: Ben Johnson
He didn't need to adapt to the game conditions, all of the defence were under strict instructions and other than a bollocks penalty, kept them at bay.

Regardless of Mahrez not having his best game, maybe that was because the young man done exactly what he was told and cancelled him out.

He's not even a left back so fair play.

Re: Ben Johnson
Good enough as 2nd choice RB to Freds next Season for sure.

The problem is the LB position with Cress always injured and Masuaku shite.

Need to spend a few mill on a first choice LB in the Summer.

Also v Newcastle if Balbuena is fit, Ogbonna can play LB if Cress and Masuaku not fit

dealcanvey 11:49 Thu Feb 28
Re: Ben Johnson
A few times you clearly saw him pointing and shouting at Anderson to go and mark his man. Showed great maturity but Anderson needs to start supporting his left back more defensively. yes Anderson makes alot of tackles which is great but seems to be always higher up the pitch.
